Communication Procedures
In an effort to keep you informed, I will send home Friday folders. There will be a checklist and a place for comments for each week. I will complete that information and would like you to initial the form. I check this on Mondays, so this is a good way to communicate back with me. In the folder will be graded papers for the week and a Friday letter written by your child. The first letter will be sent home on August 20, and the letter will be written without help from me in regards to format, paragraphing, spelling, grammar, etc. Starting the next week we will work on friendly letter form and paragraphing. Proper punctuation and grammar will be expected as the year progresses. Spelling will also be addressed as we go. I would like you to sign the letter or even write a note back to your child on the back of the letter. Please send the letter in the initialed Friday folder with your child on Mondays. I will keep the letters in your child's writing portfolio. It is a powerful moment at the end of the year when the kids look back at their early letters and see how far they have grown in writing. I will not send folders home on three day weeks and occasionally on some Fridays if we have been doing a lot of standardized testing or project based learning. I will let you know if that is the case on this blog.
